A member of the House of Representatives representing Ogbia Federal Constituency has carried out an empowerment distribution involving cassava stems, rain boots, and machetes for constituents within the constituency.
The initiative, which focuses on supporting local farming activities, has however attracted criticism from some residents, who questioned whether such items should be prioritised under the Constituency Development Fund (CDF).
According to critics, other members of the House of Representatives across the country are currently engaging in large-scale, capital-intensive constituency projects, including land reclamation, road construction, school buildings, and healthcare facilities, which they describe as more impactful and sustainable.
They argue that while agricultural support remains important, constituency funds should be channelled toward long-term, land-breaking projects that can stimulate economic growth, create employment, and address infrastructural deficits in Ogbia Federal Constituency.
The development has sparked wider discussions on how lawmakers utilise constituency funds and the standards by which constituency projects should be measured.
