The political tension in Rivers State has taken a dramatic turn as Governor Siminalayi Fubara openly took a swipe at the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, over what he described as unpaid and abandoned financial obligations tied to past projects.
In a strongly worded statement, Governor Fubara dismissed claims portraying Wike as “Mr Project,” alleging that many of the projects being commissioned during the previous administration were not fully paid for, leaving contractors and workers stranded.
“Most of the projects that are being commissioned were not fully paid for. Many of the workers who executed those projects are still being owed and are now coming to my government to demand their payments,” Fubara said.
According to the Rivers Governor, the outstanding liabilities run into billions and even trillions of naira, placing enormous financial pressure on his administration. He explained that contractors who handled these projects are now directing their demands to the current government, despite the projects being initiated and showcased under the previous leadership.
Fubara revealed that he had deliberately avoided speaking publicly on the matter but felt forced to respond due to persistent attacks and provocation.
“I have said I don’t want to talk, but when you keep pushing me to talk, I will say it so they will see the nyash of the fowl,” he added.
The statement has sparked intense reactions across Rivers State and on social media, with supporters divided. While some Nigerians believe Governor Fubara is courageously exposing hidden debts and financial realities inherited by his administration, others argue that the comments may be an attempt to justify governance challenges or deflect criticism.
As the political rivalry between the two leaders continues to escalate, many Nigerians are calling for transparency and accountability to clarify the true state of Rivers projects and finances.
