The Bayelsa State Chapter of the Presidential Amnesty Programme (PAP), Third Phase, has officially announced the suspension of its State Chairman, General Mondiafiri Sunday, over prolonged inconsistency in the discharge of his official duties.
Following the suspension, the State Executive Council has unanimously appointed the Vice Chairman, Mr. Steve Diwere Okojina, popularly known as Waco, as Acting State Chairman for a three-month period to ensure continuity and effective leadership.
The decision was reached during an emergency stakeholders’ meeting convened by the National Chairman of the Third Phase, General Elaye Slaboh, at the National Secretariat located in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State.
Speaking at the briefing, General Slaboh stressed the importance of stability and active leadership, especially as Bayelsa hosts the national secretariat of the programme.
“We are one family. This decision became necessary because there must be no vacuum in leadership. For over six to seven months, the State Chairman has not been available, and the executive must remain active for smooth operations,” he said.
He further clarified that the suspension is not permanent, adding that:
“At the expiration of the three-month period, if General Mondiafiri Sunday demonstrates readiness and availability to resume his responsibilities, he may be recalled.”
Reacting to the development, the suspended chairman, General Mondiafiri Sunday, accepted the decision in good faith, explaining that his absence was due to his engagement in official duties as a member of a state task force.
He congratulated the Acting Chairman on his appointment and pledged his full cooperation with the leadership to ensure the continued progress and success of the Presidential Amnesty Programme in Bayelsa State.
This report was filed from the National Secretariat of the Presidential Amnesty Programme in Yenagoa by the National Publicity Secretary, Chief Inko Brightstar, popularly known as Who Knows Tomorrow.
