In a major breakthrough against criminal elements, the Ogun State Police Command has arrested a notorious kidnap syndicate that has been terrorizing parts of the state. The arrest followed a successful operation led by officers of the Anti-Kidnapping Unit, who acted on credible intelligence.
According to the spokesperson of the Ogun State Police Command, SP Omolola Odutola, the suspects were apprehended in a forest hideout between Obafemi Owode and Ewekoro local government areas. The operation, which occurred in the early hours of Monday, led to the arrest of five suspected kidnappers, all of whom have been on the police watchlist for months.
During the raid, security operatives recovered a cache of dangerous weapons including:
Two AK-47 rifles
Five locally fabricated guns
Over 100 rounds of live ammunition
Charms and masks used for intimidation and concealment
The suspects, identified as members of a trans-border kidnapping ring, reportedly confessed to several high-profile abductions along the Lagos-Ibadan expressway and other parts of Ogun State. SP Odutola noted that investigations are ongoing to apprehend other fleeing members of the gang and to rescue possible victims.
In her words:
“This operation is a strong warning to criminals that Ogun State is not a safe haven. The Commissioner of Police has reiterated the command’s commitment to rooting out crime and securing the lives and property of residents.”
