The leadership of the Ijaw National Congress (INC) has firmly rejected a viral social media publication that allegedly included aboriginal Ijaw communities across Rivers, Ondo, Akwa Ibom, Edo, and Imo States as part of the proposed Biafra Republic.
Reacting to the controversial map, the INC described the publication as misleading, provocative, and historically inaccurate, stressing that Ijaw land and waters have never been part of Biafra and will never be.
In a strongly worded statement, the INC reaffirmed its long-standing position:
“No inch of the Ijaw territory (land and water) has ever been and can never be part of the Biafra Republic.
The Congress urged the general public, particularly Ijaw people across the Niger Delta and beyond, to remain calm and ignore the false narrative, assuring that the leadership of the INC remains fully committed to protecting, defending, and preserving Ijaw territory, identity, and cultural heritage.
The statement further emphasized that if there is ever a situation where the Ijaw Nation chooses to separate from the Nigerian state, such a move would only be pursued as a sovereign Ijaw Republic, and not under any other ethnic or regional entity.
The declaration was signed by:
