We Can’t House 13,000 New Recruits” – Army Chief Raises Alarm Over Funding Crisis.

Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt. Gen. Olufemi Oluyede, has raised the alarm over inadequate funding within the Nigerian Army, revealing that the military currently lacks the resources to accommodate over 13,000 new recruits. Speaking on Thursday, Oluyede stressed the urgent need for improved financial support, especially in the face of increasing security challenges across the country.

He noted that the operational efficiency of the army and the welfare of its personnel are heavily dependent on adequate budgetary provisions. We are committed to defending Nigeria, but our capacity to effectively absorb and train these recruits is being hindered by funding limitations,” the COAS stated.

The Army Chief called on relevant authorities and stakeholders to prioritize the military’s needs, highlighting that national security must be backed with sustainable investments.
