APC War of Words: “El-Rufai Should Get a Job and Leave Tinubu Alone” – Basiru Fires Back

A fresh political drama is brewing within the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) as the party’s National Secretary, Senator Ajibola Basiru, has publicly told former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, to “get a job” and stop distracting President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Basiru made the statement in response to growing concerns that El-Rufai may be behind subtle moves and public commentary aimed at undermining the president’s leadership.

> “El-Rufai is a former public officeholder. He should go and get a job, preferably in the private sector, where he can put his skills to use. Distracting the president with needless political drama serves no one,” Basiru said.

The comments come at a time of increasing tension in the APC, with several top figures rumored to be positioning themselves ahead of the 2027 general elections. El-Rufai, known for his strong opinions and political influence, has remained vocal on national issues even after leaving office in 2023.

Basiru’s callout has added fuel to speculation that the former governor might be preparing for a comeback or aligning with forces outside the current Tinubu camp.

Is El-Rufai truly a distraction, or is this a case of inner-party power play?
