Fresh concerns have emerged over Nigeria’s national security following an independent report alleging that the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has released a Chinese national previously arrested alongside Boko Haram insurgents.
According to the Independent Report, the foreign suspect was allegedly apprehended for assisting Boko Haram in the operation of drones said to have been used in attacks against Nigerian military positions in the North-East. Security sources claimed the drones were deployed for surveillance and tactical coordination against troops fighting terrorism.
The alleged release of the Chinese national has triggered widespread public outrage, with Nigerians questioning the government’s commitment to national security and justice. Analysts warn that freeing a suspect linked to insurgent activities could undermine the morale of Nigerian soldiers who continue to risk their lives daily on the battlefield.
Many citizens and civil society groups are now calling on the Federal Government to issue a clear and transparent explanation regarding the circumstances surrounding the arrest and release, stressing that accountability is crucial at a time when insecurity remains a major national challenge.
As terrorist activities continue to threaten lives and property across parts of the country, Nigerians are demanding firm action against anyone—whether Nigerian or foreign—linked to terrorism.
