In a major political breakthrough aimed at restoring peace and unity in Rivers State, Governor Siminalayi Fubara and the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Chief Nyesom Wike, have agreed to put their differences aside and work together in the interest of the state.
The agreement was reached following a high-level peace meeting convened by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
Also in attendance were the Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Martins Amaewhule, and key members of the State Assembly.
According to credible sources, the meeting was tense but fruitful, as President Tinubu emphasized the importance of unity and political maturity, urging all parties to shun actions capable of destabilizing Rivers State.
The president reportedly told both leaders that the people of Rivers are tired of political tension and are yearning for development, peace, and good governance.Following the meeting, both Wike and Fubara expressed commitment to reconciliation and cooperation.
We may have had our differences, but Rivers State is bigger than any personal interest. Going forward, we will work in the spirit of unity,” Wike reportedly told those present.Governor Fubara, on his part, assured the president that his administration is focused on delivering dividends of democracy and maintaining political stability.
This latest development comes after months of political turbulence in the state, marked by a fierce power tussle between the two former allies turned political rivals.
