The Federal Government has raised serious concerns over what it describes as a brewing plot by political opponents and disgruntled elites to destabilize the Tinubu administration due to ongoing reform policies reshaping Nigeria’s economy and governance systems.Speaking through the Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the Presidency said the reforms—though tough—are essential for correcting decades of mismanagement.
But rather than support recovery efforts, he alleged that “haters of progress” are now actively working to sabotage the administration.“We never said it would be a smooth ride,” Onanuga remarked. “President Tinubu’s reforms are painful but necessary. Yet, those who fed fat on the old, corrupt system are plotting to crash the system just to regain power.
The remarks follow a rising wave of public outcry over inflation, job losses, and a weakened naira, all fueled by the removal of petrol subsidies and the harmonization of the exchange rate. While critics blame the government for worsening hardship, the Tinubu-led team insists that short-term pain will lead to long-term gain.

He also emphasized that while Nigerians have every right to demand accountability, the administration will not tolerate any attempts to undermine the nation’s democracy.“Reforms take time, but we’re already seeing progress in areas like revenue generation, foreign investor confidence, and reduced corruption leakages,” he added.
The government urged citizens to be vigilant and resist any narrative designed to sow division or ignite unrest, promising that better days are ahead.
