Port Harcourt, Nigeria – July 12, 2025
A man identified as Allen Wogu has come forward with a startling rebuttal to the claims made by the current Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, concerning his early-life affluence.
Speaking in a viral video, Wogu, who introduced himself as a former classmate of Wike at the University of Port Harcourt (UNIPORT), strongly disputed the minister’s recent statement that he was already wealthy and owned a Mercedes Benz while still a student.
“This is a total fabrication. Wike was never that rich in school. In fact, he wasn’t even among the top spenders in our class, let alone owning a Benz,” Wogu stated emphatically.
He went on to suggest that the minister’s narrative was a ploy to craft a larger-than-life public image, far removed from the reality of their student days.
“We all knew each other well. If anyone was driving a Benz on campus back then, the whole school would have known. Wike was just like the rest of us—managing student life, hustling like everyone else,” he added.
The FCT Minister, during a recent public appearance, had boasted about his early success and financial independence, claiming he made substantial income as a student and drove a Mercedes Benz, a statement which raised eyebrows among many Nigerians.
While Wike has yet to respond to Wogu’s comments, the revelation has stirred fresh conversations online, with many calling for greater honesty and humility from public figures.
The unfolding drama comes amid growing scrutiny of Nigeria’s political elites, especially in light of recent economic hardship and public frustration with governance.
