Burkina Faso’s President, Captain Ibrahim Traoré, has reignited the long-standing vision of African unity by calling for the creation of a “United States of Africa” during a powerful speech marking the Democratic and Popular Revolution (DPR), led by the legendary Captain Thomas Sankara.

Speaking with conviction and revolutionary fire, Traoré declared:

> “This revolution, fueled by our refusal to accept the status quo and a renewed commitment to the people’s desire for a proud, free, and sovereign Nation, is being revitalized through the Popular Progressive Revolution (PPR)… With the same determination as our brave predecessors, we will triumph over imperialism so that BURKINA FASO can thrive.”

Traoré went further to challenge the legacy of colonialism, describing the borders drawn by imperial powers as shackles that have divided Africa for too long. He passionately advocated for their removal and called for the birth of a continent united in sovereignty, purpose, and strength.

> “We must dismantle the colonial borders. The time has come for a United States of Africa,” he declared.

This bold vision aligns with a growing wave of anti-colonial and pan-African sentiment sweeping across West Africa, led by nations like Burkina Faso, Mali, and Niger—countries now governed by military-backed leaderships focused on African solutions for African problems.

Traoré’s message was more than just a political statement—it was a rallying cry. His push to erase colonial divisions and unite Africa echoes the historic visions once championed by Kwame Nkrumah, Muammar Gaddafi, and Thomas Sankara.

As one of the youngest presidents in the world, Ibrahim Traoré is now positioning himself as a symbol of a new African awakening—one that demands dignity, unity, and sovereignty across the continent.
