Nigeria’s former Vice President, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, is once again gearing up for another shot at the presidency, marking his seventh attempt to clinch the nation’s highest political seat.

Atiku, who will be 78 years old in 2027, has been a familiar face on Nigeria’s presidential ballot since 1993, contesting under different political platforms but failing to secure victory.

In his most recent outing during the 2023 general elections, Atiku flew the flag of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) but was defeated by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

This time around, sources within his camp reveal that the Adamawa-born politician is eyeing the ticket of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) — a relatively smaller party that has been gaining attention as a potential “third force” in Nigeria’s evolving political landscape.

Political watchers say Atiku’s resilience reflects his long-standing ambition and belief in his capacity to govern Nigeria, but questions remain over his chances in 2027, especially given his age, the dominance of APC and PDP, and his past electoral performances.

Analysts argue that while the ADC platform may offer Atiku a fresh ground away from PDP’s internal crisis, building a nationwide structure capable of challenging the ruling APC will be a herculean task.

👉 Do you think Atiku can secure the ADC presidential ticket and finally win in 2027, or will this be another unsuccessful attempt? Drop your thoughts in the comment box below.
