In a remarkable show of compassion and community service, the De Norsemen Klub International (DNKI), Bayelsa State Chapter, has extended its humanitarian gesture to the Okaka Correctional Centre in Yenagoa, by commissioning and donating a modern borehole facility to the centre.
The commissioning, which took place today, October 15, formed part of activities marking the DNKI Humanitarian Day Celebration — an annual event dedicated to promoting love, service, and the dignity of humanity across communities.
Speaking during the ceremony, Chief Dr. Anthony Oboghor, Guv’nor of the De Norsemen Club International, Bayelsa State Chapter, explained that the donation underscores the club’s unwavering commitment to improving the welfare of the less privileged and supporting public institutions that serve society.
> “Our organization believes that every human being deserves access to clean and safe water. This borehole project represents our little way of contributing to humanity and making a positive difference in our environment,” he stated.
The Controller of the Correctional Centre expressed profound gratitude to the DNKI for the timely intervention, describing the project as a major relief for both inmates and staff who had grappled with water scarcity for years. He emphasized that the borehole would go a long way in promoting hygiene and healthy living conditions within the facility.
Other dignitaries and DNKI representatives who spoke during the event lauded the Bayelsa Chapter for exemplifying the true spirit of the DNKI Humanitarian Day, which focuses on service, compassion, and social impact.
The event concluded with the formal commissioning of the borehole, prayers of thanksgiving, and group photographs with members of the De Norsemen Club and correctional officers.
