In a fresh twist that has sparked nationwide reactions, prominent Islamic cleric Sheikh Ahmad Gumi has revealed that he is willing to support amnesty for the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Mazi Nnamdi Kanu — but only if Kanu shows remorse and publicly appeals for peace.
According to Vanguard News, Gumi stated that every conflict can be resolved through dialogue, and that Kanu’s release could be considered if he demonstrates a genuine commitment to peaceful coexistence.
Gumi stressed that Nigeria is currently too fragile for prolonged conflicts and that national unity must be prioritized. He added that forgiveness can be extended to anyone who is willing to retrace their steps and embrace peace.
