Tension has erupted in Bakin Ruwa, a border community in Bagudu Local Government Area of Kebbi State, after suspected terrorists launched a deadly attack on an Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) checkpoint, killing three officers on the spot.
According to local sources, the assailants—believed to be members of a fast-growing terror network operating across the Nigeria–Benin border axis—arrived in the early hours of the morning, heavily armed and riding on motorcycles.
Witnesses said the criminals opened fire without warning, catching the officers off guard and causing residents and travellers to scamper for safety. The fierce gunfire reportedly lasted several minutes before the attackers fled through nearby forest routes.
Security operatives and community volunteers who rushed to the scene confirmed that three Immigration officers died instantly, while others sustained gunshot injuries.
Local residents expressed fear that the boldness of the attackers signals a dangerous escalation in terrorist activities in Kebbi and neighbouring states.
A security analyst who spoke to FrontNaija noted that the Lakurawa militant network, notorious for cross-border attacks and kidnappings, has recently increased its operations—raising questions about intelligence gathering and border security management.
The attack has sparked fresh outrage among Nigerians as insecurity continues to worsen despite ongoing military operations in several regions.
