Prominent stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) have issued a strong warning to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, demanding an immediate public apology over his recent comments against the APC National Secretary, Senator Ajibola Basiru.
The stakeholders, led by Dr. Umar D. Duhu, released a sharply worded statement titled “APC Stakeholders Put Wike on Notice: Retract and Apologize Now,” condemning Wike’s remarks as uncalled for, inappropriate, and a clear violation of party ethics.
“APC Is Not PDP” — Stakeholders Warn Wike
According to the statement, the APC will not tolerate indiscipline, intimidation, or vulgar language, stressing that the ruling party is not the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), where leaders allegedly overlook such conduct.
The stakeholders reminded Wike that despite serving in an APC-led federal government, he is not a registered member of the party, and therefore lacks the authority to interfere in APC internal affairs or verbally attack its officials.
“As a serving minister in an APC government, Wike has a duty to maintain decorum and respect the boundaries of his office,” the statement read.
Allegations of Threats, Abuse of Office
The group accused the former Rivers State governor of threats, intimidation, and conduct bordering on abuse of office, warning that failure to retract his statements and apologize could lead to:
Formal complaints to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu
Legal action for defamation and abuse of office
Possible disciplinary measures affecting his ministerial appointment
‘Wike Is a Liability, Not an Asset’
In a damning assessment, the APC stakeholders described Wike as “more of a liability than an asset” to President Tinubu’s 2027 re-election prospects, citing his divisive rhetoric and continued focus on Rivers State political conflicts.
They urged Wike to resign as FCT Minister and concentrate on resolving his political battles in Rivers State.
“Mad Dog Must Know Who Is Feeding Him”
One of the most controversial lines in the statement read:
“If Wike thinks he is a mad dog, the mad dog should also realize who is feeding him now.”
The stakeholders emphasized that holding a ministerial position is a privilege, not a right, and warned that continued misconduct would not be tolerated.
Public Reaction: Should Wike Apologize?
The development has sparked intense debate within Nigeria’s political space, with many questioning whether Nyesom Wike should apologize to the APC and Senator Ajibola Basiru or stand by his comments.
