Abuja – The call for the immediate removal of Nigeria’s Minister of Defence, Mohammed Badaru Abubakar, has intensified as both a federal lawmaker and a vocal youth group have declared him unfit to continue in office amid the country’s deepening security crisis.

Speaking on the floor of the National Assembly, the lawmaker, whose constituency has been plagued by violent attacks and kidnappings, criticized the Defence Minister for what he described as “a glaring failure to coordinate a coherent and effective response” to the growing wave of insecurity across several states.

“Our communities are under siege, our people live in fear daily, yet there is no clear strategic action from the Ministry of Defence,” the lawmaker stated. “We cannot continue to treat national security with kid gloves while Nigerians are being slaughtered.”

Echoing this sentiment, the National Youth Coalition for Security and Good Governance (NYCSGG) held a press conference in Abuja, where its president, Comrade Ibrahim Danladi, accused the minister of lacking the competence and vision required to confront the complex security challenges facing the nation.

“Nigeria is bleeding, and the leadership of the Defence Ministry appears completely detached from reality. We are calling on President Bola Tinubu to relieve Mohammed Badaru Abubakar of his duties and appoint someone with proven capacity to lead our defence sector,” Danladi said.

The group also announced plans to stage a nationwide protest if no action is taken within the next 14 days.

The growing discontent comes in the wake of several high-profile attacks, including mass abductions, rural killings, and rising banditry in the North-West, North-Central, and parts of the South.

While the Ministry of Defence is yet to issue an official response, insiders say the calls for Badaru’s removal may force the presidency to reassess its security leadership, especially as public frustration continues to mount.
