The political feud in Nigeria’s Federal Capital Territory (FCT) has taken a new turn as an aide to the Minister of the FCT, Nyesom Wike, has accused Senator Ireti Kingibe of owing her personal aides and mismanaging a whopping ₦3 billion earmarked for constituency projects.

The unnamed senior aide, who spoke to journalists in Abuja, alleged that despite her public criticisms of Wike’s leadership style, Senator Kingibe has failed to meet the basic expectations of her office, including staff welfare and project delivery.

The same senator shouting about Wike’s actions hasn’t paid her own aides for months. She’s sitting on over ₦3 billion meant for the people of the FCT. Where are the projects? Where is the impact?” the aide asked pointedly.

This accusation follows recent heated statements by Senator Kingibe, who had vowed that FCT residents would show Minister Wike ‘who owns Abuja’ in the next council elections.

Kingibe has consistently challenged what she calls Wike’s autocratic style, accusing him of sidelining elected representatives in decision-making.In a swift counterattack, Wike’s camp insists that Kingibe lacks moral grounds to criticize anyone, citing her alleged misuse of public funds and poor treatment of staff as evidence of failed leadership.

You cannot deceive the people with fiery press statements. Let her publish a list of projects she’s done with ₦3 billion. Abuja deserves better,” the aide fired back.Attempts to get a response from Senator Kingibe or her media team were unsuccessful as at the time of reporting.

However, her supporters have dismissed the allegations as a political distraction orchestrated by Wike’s team to silence dissent.Meanwhile, civil society groups and FCT residents are calling for a comprehensive audit of all National Assembly constituency funds and urging anti-corruption agencies to probe the matter without delay. With the FCT heating up ahead of the next electoral cycle, the Kingibe-Wike clash is fast evolving into a battle for supremacy and public trust, with far-reaching implications for 2025 politics.
