In a dramatic appeal to estranged political allies, elder statesman and former Deputy National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Olabode George, has urged key opposition figures to retrace their steps and return to the PDP before it’s too late.
Speaking at a press briefing in his Ikoyi office in Lagos under the theme “Celebration of Restoration,” George passionately addressed the likes of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, ex-Sokoto Governor Aminu Tambuwal, and others currently involved in the newly formed opposition coalition aligned with the African Democratic Congress (ADC).The new coalition, unveiled on July 2, includes political giants such as Peter Obi, Uche Secondus, Datti Baba-Ahmed, Nasir El-Rufai, Rotimi Amaechi, and David Mark.
The alliance has adopted the ADC as its platform ahead of the 2027 general elections, with David Mark and Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola serving as interim Chairman and Secretary respectively. But Chief George insists that leaving the PDP now is both “dangerous and dishonorable.”> “There is a celebration of resurrection in the PDP. The PDP is like the Iroko tree—it may bend in the storm, but it never breaks,” he said.> “These men were made by the PDP. Leaving now is like dancing on the graves of our founding fathers.
We built this party together—why abandon it when we need unity most?”He warned that the coalition’s presidential ambitions may suffer the same fate as previous fragmented attempts, especially with PDP’s rotational zoning tradition unlikely to favor northern aspirants in 2027.> “This is the same mistake we made before. I warned them then, and I’m warning again—you know how something starts, but not how it ends.”On national issues, Bode George urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to immediately establish a youth-focused intervention fund to tackle unemployment and hunger across the country.> “Let banks contribute. Let the president provide ₦5 billion. We can all donate. Channel it into skills acquisition and youth development at the grassroots level.
Every LGA in Nigeria has untapped potential. Leadership is the missing link.”Also speaking at the event, former Lagos Deputy Governor Kofoworola Bucknor-Akerele reaffirmed her confidence in the PDP’s revival and capacity to retake grassroots structures nationwide.
The PDP is back, and we are reconnecting with the people. The mission to rebuild has already begun.”As the political terrain heats up ahead of 2027, Bode George’s message stands firm—PDP loyalists must return and rebuild, or risk repeating history.
Come back home before it’s too late,” he warned solemnly.
