The Pro-Chancellor of the University of Abuja, Senator Lanre Tejuoso, has raised serious allegations against former FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, over the withdrawal of land previously allocated to the institution.
Speaking at a stakeholders’ meeting, Tejuoso said that out of the 15,000 hectares initially allocated to the university for growth and development, 11,000 hectares were reclaimed by the Federal Capital Territory Administration under Wike’s leadership.
Even more troubling, he disclosed that of the 4,000 hectares left, 2,000 are mountainous terrain, unfit for construction or academic infrastructure.
“We’ve been crying out. The FCTA took back 11,000 hectares. What remains is just 4,000 — and 2,000 of that is mountain,” he stated with visible frustration.
This revelation has drawn criticism from education stakeholders, who warn that the shrinking space could severely hamper UniAbuja’s ability to expand, especially as its student population continues to grow.
Calls are being made for the federal government to intervene and re-evaluate the land policies affecting educational institutions in the FCT.
