In a bold move to strengthen accountability and public trust, the Nigerian Police Force has embarked on a nationwide sensitization campaign, reminding citizens that bail is completely FREE.
This renewed public orientation aims to stamp out extortion by some unscrupulous officers and to empower Nigerians with the knowledge of their rights when interacting with law enforcement.
According to senior police officials, the initiative is being rolled out through radio programs, community meetings, and social media campaigns.
“Bail is your constitutional right. No police officer has the right to charge you for it. Any officer caught doing so will face disciplinary action,” a top police official warned during a media briefing.
The police also urged the public to report any officer or station demanding money for bail via their official complaint channels or by visiting the nearest police command.
The message is clear: Bail is FREE. Don’t be a victim. Know your rights.
