Renowned journalist, publisher, and politician, Chief Dele Momodu, has officially resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), citing the party’s alleged takeover by “antidemocratic forces” as the core reason behind his exit.In a resignation letter dated July 17, 2025, addressed to the PDP Ward 4 Chairman in Ihievbe, Owan East Local Government Area of Edo State, Momodu wrote: My reason is clear and direct. The party has, in my honest view, been hijacked by antidemocratic forces bent on silencing critical voices and derailing internal democracy.

Chief Momodu, who joined the PDP in 2021 and played a frontline role in its 2023 presidential campaign efforts, expressed deep disappointment over the party’s direction, accusing its leadership of promoting impunity and sidelining voices of reason. He further noted that the ideals and vision that once attracted him to the party have been grossly eroded.

The resignation of such a high-profile figure is expected to send ripples through the party’s ranks, especially at a time when the PDP is grappling with internal divisions and struggling to rebuild its public image ahead of the 2027 elections.
