In a horrifying road tragedy, at least 22 people have been confirmed dead, while 20 others sustained various degrees of injuries after a lone trailer crash along the Lapai–Lambata road in Niger State.
According to SaharaReporters, the trailer, which was reportedly conveying both passengers and cattle, was on its way from Kano to Lagos when the fatal accident occurred.
Eyewitnesses at the scene said the trailer appeared overloaded and may have lost control due to brake failure. The vehicle overturned, instantly crushing several occupants and animals under its weight.
Emergency responders and good Samaritans rushed to the scene to rescue survivors and transport the injured to nearby hospitals for urgent medical attention. Recovery operations are still ongoing.
This tragic event adds to the growing number of deadly accidents involving overloaded and poorly maintained vehicles on Nigerian highways, sparking fresh calls for stricter enforcement of road safety laws.
