Rising Insecurity: NLC Leads Nationwide Protest as Workers Demand Safety Across Nigeria
(FrontNaija News):
The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and its affiliate unions on Wednesday staged a nationwide protest to express deep concern over the rising insecurity across the country.
The union had earlier declared December 17 for the nationwide action, citing what it described as Nigeria’s “degenerating security situation,” which has been worsened by the activities of bandits and kidnappers.
In a notice issued to all state councils on December 10, following its National Executive Committee (NEC)-in-session meeting held on December 4, the NLC condemned the persistent and rampant criminal activities spreading across different parts of the country.
According to the labour centre, the continued wave of insecurity poses a serious threat to the safety of workers, their families, and the general populace, while also negatively impacting economic activities nationwide.
The nationwide protest witnessed union members and workers mobilising in several states, calling on the Federal Government and security agencies to take urgent and decisive steps to end the killings, kidnappings, and insecurity.
The NLC stressed that addressing insecurity remains critical to national stability, economic growth, and public confidence.
