ABUJA, Nigeria. The Minister of Works and former Ebonyi State governor, David Umahi, has declared that calls for a separate Biafran state are now unwarranted, insisting that the Igbo are “no longer marginalised” in Nigeria.

Speaking during an inspection of major federal road projects in the South-East, Umahi attributed the decline in separatist sentiment to the “unprecedented integration of Ndigbo into Nigeria’s national development agenda” under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration.

According to the minister, infrastructure investments, political appointments, and increased federal presence across the South-East have eased the historical sense of neglect that once fuelled Biafra agitation.

In the past, our people felt marginalised, and that was the reason some people were agitating for Biafra. But today, we are well integrated into the mainstream of the nation, Nigeria,” Umahi said.

He pointed to several ongoing federal projects including key expressways and the Second Niger Bridge works — as proof that the region is finally getting its fair share of development attention.

Umahi also thanked President Tinubu for what he described as deliberate policies to foster inclusivity and national unity.
