YENAGOA, Nigeria — May 30, 2025
The smear campaign launched against the Administrator of the Presidential Amnesty Programme, Chief Dennis Burutu Otuaro, by a group calling itself the Reformed Niger Delta Ex-Agitators Forum is nothing short of a desperate, politically motivated attempt to derail the reforms currently being implemented in the programme.
Chief Otuaro’s administration has brought a renewed sense of order, transparency, and discipline to the Amnesty Programme—initiating long-overdue verification and reform processes aimed at ending years of abuse and mismanagement.
Credible intelligence suggests that some of the individuals behind this campaign are former insiders who, during their time in the Amnesty Office, were deeply involved in corrupt practices. These include diverting and converting funds meant for legitimate beneficiaries to serve the interests of political patrons. Today, they are desperate to stop ongoing verification efforts, fearing that their past crimes will be exposed.
Their so-called petition is not rooted in the interest of the Niger Delta or its people. It is a cover-up attempt designed to distract from the ongoing sanitization of the Amnesty Programme. Their actions threaten the peace and stability that the region has worked so hard to sustain.
Genuine Leaders Ex-Agitators Forum Responds
In response to the recent publication, the Genuine Leaders Ex-Agitators Forum has condemned the allegations in strong terms, describing them as baseless, desperate, and politically motivated.
“Our attention has been drawn to a fabricated publication aimed at undermining the leadership of Chief Dennis Otuaro. We categorically state that the allegations are false and represent the voices of disgruntled elements who are afraid of being exposed due to their past corrupt activities while in the Amnesty Office,” the group stated.
They further expressed full support for the ongoing reform and verification exercises, calling them “long overdue and essential for restoring credibility to the Amnesty Programme.”
“The time of manipulation and fraudulent listings is over. Those who once hijacked the system for personal gain are now trying to blackmail the reform process. We say enough is enough. The Niger Delta must move forward.”
We call on the National Security Adviser, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu not to be distracted by politically induced noise. The administration of Chief Dennis Otuaro must be allowed to continue its critical reform work without intimidation or blackmail.
The Niger Delta deserves genuine development, not chaos driven by fear of accountability.
