Germany and Egypt have jointly called for immediate de-escalation of the rising tensions in the Middle East, warning that continued hostilities could trigger a broader regional conflict with devastating humanitarian consequences.
In a press briefing held in Berlin on Monday, German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock and her Egyptian counterpart Sameh Shoukry emphasized the urgent need for restraint and renewed diplomatic efforts between Israel and Hamas, as the Gaza conflict intensifies.
We are deeply alarmed by the rising civilian casualties and destruction,” said Baerbock. “Germany and Egypt are united in the call for all parties to cease hostilities and return to negotiations. Further bloodshed will only deepen the suffering.
Egypt, which traditionally serves as a key mediator in Israeli-Palestinian conflicts, reiterated its commitment to working with international partners—including the United Nations and the European Union—to broker a sustainable ceasefire.Sameh Shoukry added:>
“We are calling on the international community to act swiftly. Silence is no longer an option. The humanitarian situation is deteriorating by the hour.
The joint appeal follows days of intensified Israeli airstrikes in Gaza and a growing humanitarian crisis, with thousands displaced and critical infrastructure severely damaged.
Reports from international aid agencies describe hospitals running out of medical supplies and electricity in many parts of Gaza becoming scarce.Germany and Egypt both stressed the importance of protecting civilian lives and ensuring humanitarian corridors are opened immediately.
