The recent arrest of Owuopele Eneoriekumoh Owous, also known as Owous Gabon — the so-called chairman of an unknown group — has brought a renewed sense of peace to the Niger Delta. Known widely as an impostor and blackmailer, Owous was apprehended at his residence in Yenagoa over allegations of cyberbullying. While a handful of his followers cry political witch-hunt, the broader Niger Delta community, especially the youth, see this as a long-overdue step towards restoring integrity and calm in the region. With his arrest, the Niger Delta is finally at peace, free from the chaos and deceit he propagated under false pretenses.

We, the Niger Delta Youth, Set the Record Straight

We categorically declare that Owuopele Eneoriekumoh Owous is not a leader in the Presidential Amnesty Programme (PAP). He holds no official position, wields no recognized mandate, and is not acknowledged by the legitimate leadership or genuine ex-agitator groups. He is simply a self-promoted impostor disturbing the peace and progress of the Amnesty Programme.

If he claims otherwise — that he is a leader or stakeholder — let him present verifiable proof to the authorities and the Nigerian public.

The Truth About Owoupele Owous

We expose the truth about the so-called activist, who in reality is:

An impostor and blackmailer, who routinely peddles falsehoods to extort officials and gain selfish attention.

A fraudster, who has defrauded business partners — particularly in the palm oil trade — by collecting funds and disappearing without delivering.

A deceiver, who formed a questionable group, “Reformed Niger Delta,” and used it to collect donations from unsuspecting ex-agitators, promising advocacy and reforms but delivering confusion and division.

An impersonator, who falsely parades himself as a legal professional, despite reportedly failing at law school. We call on the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) to investigate him for impersonation.

A noise-maker, who offers no tangible solutions but incites protests and spreads unverified rumors, especially when his attempts at extortion fail.

Protecting the Peace and Progress of the Amnesty Programme

We, the Niger Delta youth, affirm our full support for the ongoing peace and development in the region, driven in part by the Presidential Amnesty Programme’s structure and leadership. Despite some challenges, the program has made visible strides. We will not allow anyone to tarnish its integrity.

We emphasize:

The arrest of Owous was not politically motivated, and it was not directed by any Amnesty official.

He must face the law for the specific criminal allegations against him.

He has no recognized role in the Amnesty Programme and is merely disturbing the peace of the program and misleading the public.

Our Call to Action

We call on the public and our fellow Niger Delta youth to:

Reject propaganda and false claims from self-acclaimed leaders with no proof of representation.

Support lawful investigation and due process — let the courts decide his guilt or innocence.

Speak out against fraudulent activism that seeks to divide our region for personal gain.

We say no to blackmail, no to fraud, no to false representation, and no to those who threaten our peace.

This is a new era for the Niger Delta — one of truth, justice, unity, and real progress.
