His Imperial Majesty Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, Ojaja II, has urged Nigerian universities to carry out an in-depth academic study into the remarkable and controversial political journey of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.The revered traditional ruler made this call during the 2025 Distinguished Personality Lecture held at the prestigious Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, Osun State, on Thursday, July 3, 2025.
The Ooni described Wike’s appointment into the Federal Executive Council led by the All Progressives Congress (APC) as a “political mystery” that defies conventional political logic, especially considering Wike’s identity as a prominent figure in the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
In his words:> “Universities in Nigeria should begin to document and study how Nyesom Wike, a key figure in the opposition PDP, found his way into an APC-led federal cabinet. That is an important case study in political science and realpolitik. His journey is mysterious, but it teaches a deeper lesson about influence, loyalty, and national politics.
The monarch further emphasized the importance of equipping students with real-life political experiences to complement theoretical frameworks taught in classrooms.
He noted that Wike’s case could serve as a rich academic resource in political science, governance, public administration, and contemporary Nigerian history.Oba Ogunwusi also charged Nigerian youths to pay attention to unfolding political events in the country, urging them to learn from leaders whose careers exhibit political resilience and strategic alliances across party lines.
