A faction of the Ohanaeze Ndigbo sociocultural group has called on former Labour Party presidential candidate, Mr. Peter Obi, to reconsider his 2027 presidential ambition and instead support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election bid.
In a statement made in Abakaliki, the Deputy National President of the group, Mazi Okechukwu Isiguzoro, appealed to Obi to prioritize national unity, peace, and strategic inclusion over personal ambition. He warned that contesting against a sitting president could be politically futile, especially without broad national support.
Isiguzoro expressed skepticism over Obi’s ability to secure enough votes beyond the Southeast and cited internal cracks within the opposition, including the likely return of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar to the race, as major obstacles.
He also highlighted what he described as gestures of goodwill from the Tinubu-led administration towards the Southeast, mentioning the appointment of Senator Dave Umahi as Minister of Works and an increase in federal allocations to the region as signs of inclusivity.
According to Isiguzoro, a divided opposition fielding both Atiku and Obi would only strengthen Tinubu’s path to victory in 2027. He advised Obi to consider the strategic advantage of aligning with the current administration instead of embarking on a solo bid that may lead to another disappointing outcome for the Southeast.
“The Southeast cannot afford another round of political marginalization due to fragmented interests. Obi should think beyond now,” he added.
What is do you think on this , should he abandon his presidential ambition and support TINUBU as his people have said or overlook them and continue, drop your comment on the comment section.
