The Social Democratic Party (SDP) has expelled former Kaduna State Governor, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, and imposed a 30-year ban on him from participating in any activity associated with the party.
In a strongly worded statement issued on Monday by the National Publicity Secretary, Araba Aiyenigba, the party described El-Rufai’s conduct as a “clear and dangerous violation of the party’s constitution and ethics.”
“El-Rufai never registered with the SDP at his ward level as required by the party’s constitution, yet falsely declared on social media that he had joined the party,” the statement read.
The party further alleged that El-Rufai forged documents, falsely presented himself as a member, and posed for photographs with suspended party officials to give an impression of legitimacy.
According to the SDP, these actions were part of a calculated plan to manipulate internal structures and create confusion within the party ranks. He is also accused of attempting to drag the party into a political coalition without the approval of the National Executive Council.
Additionally, the statement pointed to El-Rufai’s simultaneous involvement with the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as further evidence of double-dealing and political sabotage.
The party leadership described his activities as “deceptive political maneuvers aimed at hijacking the SDP for personal and external interests.”
This development marks a significant escalation in intra-party tensions and comes amid growing concerns about political realignments ahead of the 2027 general elections.
SDP has reaffirmed its commitment to internal discipline and transparency, vowing to resist any attempt to compromise its structure or values.
