The National Chairman of the Third Phase Presidential Amnesty Programme, General Elaye ThankGod Dollar Slaboh, on Thursday joined dignitaries, political leaders, and the people of Bayelsa State at the Banquet Hall, Government House, Yenagoa, for the 10th Remembrance Service in honour of Chief Diepreye Solomon Peter Alamieyeseigha, the first civilian Governor of Bayelsa State.

The event, which drew leaders from across the Niger Delta and beyond, was held to celebrate the enduring legacy of the late Ijaw icon, fondly remembered as the Governor-General of the Ijaw Nation.

In his remarks, General Elaye ThankGod Dollar Slaboh described Alamieyeseigha as “a father figure, visionary leader, and true liberator of the Ijaw people whose courage and foresight transformed Bayelsa into a beacon of hope for the Niger Delta.”

He commended the late governor’s pioneering role in the struggle for resource control and the political empowerment of the Niger Delta people, noting that “Chief Alamieyeseigha’s commitment to justice, equity, and fairness remains a guiding light for generations of leaders.”

Chief DSP Alamieyeseigha, who governed Bayelsa State from 1999 to 2005, is widely credited with laying the foundation for the state’s modern development through infrastructural expansion, educational advancement, and human capacity development.

The remembrance service featured prayers, songs, and heartfelt tributes from political associates, traditional rulers, and community leaders, all of whom described the late Alamieyeseigha as a trailblazer whose legacies continue to shape Bayelsa’s political and developmental history.

Chief Alamieyeseigha passed away on October 10, 2015, but remains a towering figure in the history of Bayelsa State and the wider Niger Delta region.
