Full Story (FrontNaija News Blog Version):

Fresh political drama is unfolding in Rivers State as strong indications emerge that the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Chief Nyesom Wike, is allegedly making a strategic move to form an alliance with the Social Democratic Party (SDP) under his much-talked-about “Rainbow Coalition.”
This development comes amid the deepening Rivers political crisis and reports that Wike’s earlier efforts to rally support against Governor Siminalayi Fubara, now widely recognised as the leader of the APC in the state, failed to gain traction at the national level.

According to multiple sources, the alleged move became necessary following the APC National Committee’s decision to hand over the Rivers APC party structure to Governor Fubara, reportedly after his defection to the party. The decision is also said to have been followed by a directive instructing the FCT Minister to stay clear of APC activities in Rivers State.
With the APC option seemingly closed, Wike is now believed to be exploring an alternative political platform ahead of the next election cycle.

Reports further claim that although Wike is currently out of the country, arrangements are underway for a high-level meeting with the SDP national leadership in Abuja to finalise modalities for the possible merger of his supporters with the party. The meeting is said to have been facilitated by Senator Magnus Abe, former SDP governorship candidate in Rivers State, and allegedly had in attendance the SDP National Chairman and members of the party’s National Working Committee (NWC).

A Sources allege that the move is aimed at providing a viable platform for Wike’s loyalists to field candidates for the House of Assembly and the governorship in future elections, as part of a renewed effort to challenge Governor Fubara’s political dominance in the state.

Political observers believe this sudden shift represents a last-minute U-turn designed to prevent what some of Wike’s supporters fear could be political isolation, following the apparent collapse of attempts to block Governor Fubara’s consolidation of power within the APC.

As the Rivers political landscape continues to shift, all eyes are now on the SDP and how this alleged alliance could reshape the balance of power in the state.
