In a bold move to recover stolen public funds and repurpose confiscated assets for national development, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) today officially transferred ownership of a sprawling 750-unit luxury housing estate—seized from former Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor, Godwin Emefiele—to the Federal Ministry of Housing and Urban Development. The handover ceremony was conducted in Abuja, with EFCC Chairman, Mr. Ola Olukoyede, presenting the property documents to the Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Arc. Ahmed Musa Dangiwa.According to EFCC sources, the estate—comprising over 750 high-end duplexes located in a prime district of the Federal Capital Territory—was forfeited to the federal government following the conclusion of a corruption probe linked to the misappropriation of public funds during Emefiele’s tenure at the apex bank.Speaking at the event, Minister Dangiwa described the handover as a “significant step in the Renewed Hope Agenda” of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, adding that the government is committed to converting recovered assets into functional infrastructure for the benefit of Nigerians.> “These housing units will be sold through a clear, transparent, and competitive process. We want to ensure that Nigerians—particularly first-time home buyers and those in genuine need—have a fair opportunity to acquire these properties,” Dangiwa said.He further explained that the entire process will be executed under the supervision of the Renewed Hope Housing Delivery Programme and managed via the official Renewed Hope Portal. The platform will ensure that applications are streamlined, eligibility is verified, and transactions are fully traceable and accountable.> “Gone are the days when confiscated assets are left to waste or resold in secret to political cronies. This government is committed to openness, equity, and the responsible use of public resources,” he added. The luxury estate, built with ultra-modern amenities, includes green spaces, paved roads, recreational areas, and top-tier security features. Real estate experts estimate the value of the estate to be in the tens of billions of naira.Meanwhile, EFCC Chairman Ola Olukoyede reaffirmed the agency’s resolve to continue investigating and recovering assets acquired through illicit means.> “The EFCC remains committed to the mandate of curbing corruption and returning stolen wealth back to the Nigerian people. This handover represents a win for accountability, justice, and development,” Olukoyede stated. The Renewed Hope Portal is expected to go live for applications in the coming weeks. Interested buyers are encouraged to prepare necessary documentation, including proof of funds and national identification, ahead of the formal announcement.FrontNaija News will continue to monitor this story and provide real-time updates on the sale process, application guidelines, and property valuation.
