The Trade Union Congress (TUC), Bayelsa State Administrative Council (SAC), led by its Chairman, Comrade Fefegha Muneneyi Edwin, on Wednesday, 15 January 2026, paid a strategic courtesy visit to the Executive Secretary of the Bayelsa State Health Insurance Scheme (BHIS).
The high-level engagement was held at the Executive Secretary’s Conference Room, BHIS Headquarters, and focused on reinforcing collaboration aimed at improving affordable and sustainable healthcare delivery for workers and residents across Bayelsa State.
During the visit, the TUC leadership commended the management of BHIS for its consistent efforts toward expanding health insurance coverage and advancing the goal of universal health coverage in the state. The Council emphasized the importance of continuous stakeholder engagement, particularly with organised labour, to drive wider enrollment across both the formal and informal sectors.
Comrade Muneneyi reaffirmed the commitment of the TUC Bayelsa SAC to support BHIS through advocacy, sensitisation, and policy dialogue that will strengthen healthcare access, protect workers’ welfare, and enhance service delivery, especially at the grassroots level.
The meeting also provided a platform for discussions on deepening institutional partnerships, addressing emerging healthcare challenges, and ensuring the long-term sustainability of the Bayelsa State Health Insurance Scheme.
The TUC delegation expressed appreciation for the warm reception by the BHIS Executive Secretary and management team, while pledging continued cooperation in promoting quality, accessible, and affordable healthcare for all Bayelsans.
